5.7-Liter HEMI® V8
The available 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 delivers outstanding performance with reduced noise, vibration, and harshness—producing 330 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 375 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, giving Jeep® Grand Cherokee best-in-class[5] power. The engine also features the economical Multi-Displacement System (MDS),[4] which deactivates four cylinders when eight are not needed. When cruising at highway speeds between 40 and 60 mph, MDS uses advanced computer technology and electronic throttle control to transform the HEMI® V8 seamlessly from V8 power to an efficient four-cylinder powerplant in 0.04 seconds. 4.7-Liter Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV)[6] V8
The 2008 Grand Cherokee features an All New 4.7-liter FFV[6] V8 engine that not only delivers 30 percent more horsepower, and 10 percent more torque, but also better fuel economy[7] and increased refinement compared with the engine it replaces.
This advanced engine incorporates two spark plugs per cylinder (the only Chrysler Group engine to do so, other than the mighty HEMI® V8 engines). The new engine is also equipped with Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) and is capable of operating on gas or ecologically friendly E85 ethanol fuel. Fill your tank with either fuel type and you'll still command 305 hp and 334 lb-ft of torque.

3.7-Liter V6
The Jeep® Grand Cherokee Laredo's standard 3.7-liter single overhead cam (SOHC) V6 engine is powerful, efficient, durable, and smooth. It features 210 horsepower at 5,200 rpm, 235 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine also employs a sophisticated standard electronic throttle control system that tailors throttle response to pedal movement, and maintains a consistent vehicle speed on rolling grades when cruise control is active. 3.0-Liter V6 Turbo Diesel
The new 3.0-liter V6 Turbo Diesel engine[1] incorporates advanced technology that results in renowned best-in-class[2] distinction for fuel economy[3] and 4x4 driving range.[3] You'll harness 215 hp that's charged with 376 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0-liter V6 Turbo Diesel was named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines for 2007.[8] Remote Start comes standard on Grand Cherokee's equipped with the available 3.0-liter V6 Turbo Diesel engine.
