New Suspension
The 2008 Jeep Liberty's new short-long arm (SLA) independent front suspension, new five-link rear suspension and power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering were tuned for an optimum balance of comfort, ride, responsive handling, and enhanced steering control.
Liberty's robust suspension offers nimble, confidence-inspiring handling and off-road capability that is perfect for the independent adventurer.
Steering
- Stay on course with Liberty's updated steering system. The power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is tuned to balance comfort and ease of operation with good on-center feel and responsiveness.

- Professional driver, closed course. Do not attempt extreme trails without proper instruction and equipment. 4x4 vehicle shown.
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)[1]
Slick surfaces beware. Liberty Limited and Sport come standard with advanced Electronic Stability Program (ESP)[1], all-speed traction control, hydraulic brake assist, and Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) systems work together by applying selective wheel braking and engine throttle control to help the driver maintain vehicle directional stability. There are three modes of ESP to choose from: Full-on, partial, and full-off for varying degrees of traction control—the choice is yours.

- Always drive carefully, consistent with conditions. Always wear your seat belt and obey traffic laws. Pre-production model shown.
Controls to Assist You
The road can be a threatening place–but with all-speed traction control, Hill Start Assist, and available Hill Descent Control, the 2008 Jeep® Liberty has the agility to help you navigate the trickiest of obstacles.
Traction Control
- All-speed traction control senses drive-wheel slip and applies individual brakes to a slipping wheel(s) until traction is regained.
Hill Descent Control
- New for the 2008 Jeep® Liberty, and included on all 4x4 models with automatic transmission, is available Hill Descent Control (HDC). HDC allows a smooth and controlled hill descent on rough or slippery terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. (Note: 4WD and HDC are available features)
Hill Start Assist
- Another new feature for Jeep Liberty is Hill Start Assist (HSA). Standard on all Liberty models, this feature assists drivers when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the level of brake pressure applied for a short period after the driver's foot is removed from the brake pedal. If throttle is not applied within a short period after the driver's foot is removed from the brake pedal, brake pressure will be released.

- Professional driver, closed course. Do not attempt extreme trails without proper instruction and equipment. 4x4 vehicle shown. Selec-Trac II® is an available feature. Hill Descent Control (HDC) is only available on 4x4 models.

- No deductible. See dealer for a copy of limited warranty and details. Non-Transferable. Not available on SRT, Diesel vehicles and certain fleet vehicles. On purchases beginning 7/26/07
