As capable as it is comfortable, as powerful as it is beautiful; Jeep® Commander combines the right amount of might with classic good looks. Choose from three available engines and let the torque tour begin.
Two transmissions are available:
Multi-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Range Select (ERS)
- ERS helps drivers better adapt to various on- and off-road conditions
- Advanced adaptive shifting learns a driving style and adapts shift characteristics accordingly
- Tow / haul mode
- Park position locks
- Smooth shifts and optimum efficiency
- Available with 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine
Five-speed automatic transmission
- Allows fully automated shifting in "drive" or manual gear selection by moving the shifter left and right from the "drive" position
- Smooth shifts and optimum efficiency
- Available with the 3.7L V6 engine

- Variable Valve Timing

The 5.7L HEMI® V8 features state-of-the-art Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on the exhaust valves to substantially improve fuel economy and refinement, and maximize performance. By closing the intake valve later, the engine is able to utilize formerly wasted energy to push the crank instead of rejecting it as heat. The VVT improves fuel economy in two ways. First, it reduces the engine's pumping work by closing the intake valve later. Second, it increases the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more work to be transferred to the crankshaft instead of being rejected out of the exhaust port as heat. Essentially, VVT improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power.
- Electronic Throttle Control

Commander’s Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system helps prevent the “pedal bobble” that often occurs when in 4WD-low (4LO) mode.
ETC’s special off-road calibrations help the driver to “feather in” the throttle over uneven terrain, logs and rocks. The difference is night and day and is akin to walking vs. bouncing along tough off-road trails.
- Fuel Saver Mode Display

When the 5.7L HEMI® V8's Multi-Displacement System (MDS) has deactivated 4 cylinders, a “Fuel Saver” readout will be displayed in Commander’s Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC).
