The available 5.7L V8 and the 6.4L V8 engines feature advanced Fuel Saver Technology+ that automatically deactivates four cylinders when eight are not needed. When cruising at highway speeds between 40 and 60 mph, Fuel Saver Technology uses advanced computer technology and electronic throttle control to transform the engine seamlessly from V8 power to an efficient four-cylinder power plant in 0.04 seconds.
- Is Your Timing Variable?
The 5.7L V8 features state-of-the-art Variable Valve Timing on the exhaust valves to substantially improve fuel economy and refinement, and maximize performance. By closing the intake valve later, the engine is able utilize formerly wasted energy to push the crank instead of rejecting it as heat.
Variable Valve Timing improves fuel economy in two ways. First, it reduces the engine's pumping work by closing the intake valve later. Second, it increases the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more work to be transferred to the crankshaft instead of being rejected out of the exhaust port as heat. Essentially, Variable Valve Timing improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power.
- Best-in-Class Driving Range (V6 / V8)
Each of the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engines and 5.7L V8 engines feature Variable Valve Timing to help achieve Best-in-Class Highway Driving Range+. A larger 24.6 gallon fuel tank, combined with the 3.6L Pentastar engine's improved fuel economy, delivers a far-reaching 500 miles on a tank of gas.
