Jeep®   Trail Rated®   vehicles are designed to perform in a variety of off-road conditions identified by five performance categories.

  • Ground Clearance

    • /shared/2012/liberty/capability/capability_tour/primary/2012-liberty-ground-clearance.jpg

The ability to drive over large obstacles or logs, or whatever, in combination with approach, departure and breakover angles.

  • Articulation

    • /shared/2012/liberty/capability/capability_tour/primary/2012-liberty-articulation.jpg

The ability to keep tires in contact with the road, providing traction to climb over large obstacles.

  • Maneuverability

    • /shared/2012/liberty/capability/capability_tour/primary/2012-liberty-maneuverability.jpg

The ability to navigate around obstacles that are tightly situated.

  • Traction

    • /shared/2012/liberty/capability/capability_tour/primary/2012-liberty-traction.jpg

The ability to transfer power to the road or trail along with the ability of the suspension to keep the wheels in contact with the terrain.

The ability to cross a specific depth of water at a specific speed.

    Selec-Trac® II 4WD

Put it in 4WD AUTO mode. The next-generation Selec-Trac® II 4WD, with its two-speed, active “on-demand” four-wheel drive transfer case, can be engaged all the time, even on smooth dry pavement.

When driving in 4WD AUTO mode, the system instantly detects tire slip and smoothly distributes engine torque to the tires with greatest traction. Transfer of torque from one wheel to the other on an axle is accomplished by using a Brake Traction Control system. Under the right conditions, the Liberty can be driven by one wheel.

The full-time system still has the traditional 2WD High, 4WD AUTO, 4WD-low (4LO) and Neutral operation modes. Shift the electronic shifter for outstanding off-road capability.
