Skid Plates

Skid plates protect the underside of your vehicle from off-road rocks and on-road debris. Front suspension and drivetrain plates are constructed of 3-mm thick stamped steel, and include: an automatic transmission skid bar (not shown) that protects the transmission oil pan; a transfer case skid plate and a fuel tank skid plate.

Solid Front & Rear Axles
- /shared/2013/wrangler_unlimited/capability/offroad/primary/10_j_w4d_cap_off_solidfrontaxle_prm.jpg
Wrangler Unlimited's solid axles feature added durability and articulation thanks to a larger driveshaft, stiffer housing, larger pinion bearing and above-center pinion mounting. To increase structural stiffness and effectively double the sealing capability, the NV241 GII and NV241 OR transfer cases use 18 bolts.

Suspension

Solid axles with locating arms, coil springs, track / stabilizer bars, front steering damper and high-pressure gas-charged shock absorbers toughen this suspension.

Driveshaft

Wrangler Unlimited’s axle shafts have been strengthened to more appropriately handle high torque (uses a large 1250 series joint). Driveshafts are harmonically quiet, thanks to increased bending stiffness and precise balancing.

- Crawl Ratios

Unlimited Rubicon has an incredible 73.1:1 crawl ratio, allowing for a controlled 0.5 mph cruise up or down the rocks. High crawl ratios keep you slow for more control on the rock. The crawl ratio is the combined first gear x low range x axle ratio. The higher the number, the slower the vehicle will go. And driving slowly is the key to successful off-road driving, especially over rocks and rugged terrain. You’ll be able to see what you are driving over and tiptoe over obstacles with controlled authority.
- Best 4x4 Vehicle of the Decade

Four Wheeler magazine editors have named the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon the Best 4x4 Vehicles of the Decade. They write, "The JK (current version) Wrangler represented a big step up in on-road ride and handling for Jeep's flagship ride, yet its off-road capability wasn't compromised in the least." That's exactly what we were going for.
- Monotube Shock Absorbers

Tunable Monotube Shock Absorbers have a proprietary Low Speed Tunable valve technology that is firm at low speed for improved feel on the rocks and a relaxed feel at higher speed for optimum highway driving.
