Iggy Azalea

Taking Full Advantage

Iggy Azalea is more than a bit of an outsider in the world of rap. As a white girl from rural Australia, raised in the small New South Wales town of Mullumbimby (population: 3,000), how could she not be? But today, hip‐hop has never been more open to artists from a diversity of backgrounds and Izzy is taking full advantage. Her love of hip-hop began early, but there was no way she would make it staying home. So she left her native Australia at 16, heading to Miami to meet up with the only person she knew in the entire U.S. In 2012 she was the first woman and first non-American rapper named to the influential hip-hop website XXL’s Freshman list – a top ten of artists on the rise. She released her debut album in April of 2014. Her single ‘Fancy’ went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her only the fourth solo female rapper ever to top the chart.

From the U.S., Australia, the U.K. and Ireland, the 2015 Renegade Award nominees have come from all over the world making a huge impact on the music scene. All of them have their own story to tell, every chapter is something different.
