Patriot offers the All Weather Capability Group for snow, sleet, rain and any less-than-ideal road conditions. The available Freedom Drive I™ and Freedom Drive II® 4WD systems offer proven Jeep® 4x4 all-weather, all-terrain capability. Choose the Freedom Drive II system and you get excellent off-road capability.

Jeep vehicles are heavily tested to prove off-road capability and the distinct Trail Rated® badge is the outward symbol that testifies to this.

All Jeep Trail Rated vehicles are designed to perform in a variety of off-road conditions identified by five performance categories:

  • Freedom-Drive II
    Freedom Drive II® 4WD with Off-Road Group (requires CVT2L automatic transaxle)

    For advanced capability, choose to equip the Patriot with the Trail Rated Freedom Drive II Off-Road Group. The full-time active 4WD system automatically adjusts torque on demand to better manage fuel usage and offer added stability in all weather conditions. The body and chassis of the Patriot with the available Off-Road Group were developed and tested over numerous rugged, off-road terrains to meet the requirements of enthusiast Jeep vehicle customers.

     

    The Off-Road Group includes:

    • Off-Road 4WD LOCK Mode – Low-speed, Shift-on-the-fly capable (sends 50% of torque to front and rear wheels)
    • CVT2L automatic transaxle with 19:1 Crawl Ratio(required)

  • Freedom-Drive
    Freedom Drive I™ 4WD

    For light off-road capability, choose Freedom Drive I™ active full-time, four-wheel drive (4WD). The system anticipates the need for added traction by transferring power to the rear wheels. It's designed to give drivers enhanced vehicle stability, year-round assurance, as well as the ability to handle rough weather and low-traction conditions such as rain and snow.

     

    Freedom Drive I features an Electromagnetic Controlled Coupling attached to the rear differential, which constantly monitors wheel slippage and transfers torque to the axle that can use it most. During high-traction driving, like on the highway, the system transfers virtually no torque to the rear axle for improved efficiency, but instantly transfers torque to the rear wheels when conditions call for it. 4WD Lock shift-on-the-fly sends 50 % of torque to front and rear wheels.

    All Weather Capability Group

    Being prepared can make all the difference. For all-weather, all-surface capability – choose Sport 4x4 or Latitude 4x4’s available All Weather Capability Group. This full-feature package was designed to help combat wet, mud and cold climes so you can confidently pick up the kids from school come snow, ice or hard rain. 
    The Package is only available on Patriot vehicles equipped with a proven Freedom Drive I 4WD system that offers outstanding stability in all weather conditions. Components of the package include:

    • 17-Inch Aluminum Wheels and Goodyear All-terrain Tires for all-season traction
    • All-Season Front and Rear Floor Mats for mud, snow, slush, sand or boot tread souvenirs
    • Tow Hooks can be used to help a fellow motorist out of a snowy ditch
    • Daytime Running Headlamps are a low-cost method to help reduce crashes
    • Engine Block Heater preheats the engine for improved warm-up time and cold-start fuel consumption
