What is a Hybrid Vehicle?
A Hybrid Vehicle (sometimes called a “Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)” or “Extended Range Hybrid”) is a vehicle that uses both gas and electricity at the same time to increase its miles per gallon (mpg) fuel economy and extend its driving range. Think of it like adding a shot of espresso (electricity) to your coffee drink (gas)—you’re already driving on the gas, but the electricity gives you a boost of energy and takes you farther than you would go without it.
And now, the Jeep® Brand offers one such vehicle with the 2026 Jeep Cherokee, a Turbo Hybrid.
What is a Battery Electric Vehicle?
A Battery Electric Vehicle is often called an ‘all-electric vehicle,’ and sometimes uses the abbreviation BEV or just EV for ‘electric vehicle.’ This is a vehicle that run entirely on electricity stored in a battery. These vehicles use electromagnetism to move their drive motors, which creates the momentum they use for driving. They’re quieter than vehicles that use gas since there’s no combustion to create a roar or rumble, and they create nearly zero emissions. That doesn’t mean they’re necessarily better than vehicles that use gas—there are benefits to both EVs and gas vehicles, depending on what you’re using them for.
Currently, the Jeep Brand has two all-electric vehicles in their lineup—the All-New, All Electric Jeep® Recon and the all-electric Jeep® Wagoneer S.
