Understanding Forward Collision Warning: How This Feature Helps Keep You Safe and Secure on the Road

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) is a collision warning feature that monitors the road ahead and alerts you if a frontal impact seems possible. Some automakers call this a pre-collision system or include it within a broader collision avoidance system. On equipped Jeep® Brand vehicles, the system can provide audible, visual and haptic alerts to prompt you to brake or steer.

Similar to Blind Spot Monitoring , the system uses radar sensors to keep track of other vehicles and objects on the road. Jeep® Brand vehicles use a radar sensor in the front of the vehicle and a camera near the windshield. The system tracks vehicles and other objects in your lane, estimates time to collision and helps you react sooner. A few key features include:

Alerts: Chimes, cluster messages and, on some models, a brief brake pulse.

Brake Support: Active Braking on equipped models can apply the brakes to help mitigate or, in some driving scenarios, avoid a collision if you don't respond.

Forward Collision Warning can include Active Braking on many trims. Front radar sensors and a windshield camera watch the road ahead, and a chime, cluster messages or a brief brake pulse will call you to act if a potential impact is detected. On equipped models, the system can work with Adaptive Cruise Control, and if you don’t react in time, Active Braking can apply the brakes to help reduce speed.
