TOWING, DRIVETRAIN AND CAPABILITY

The 2026 Jeep® Wrangler comes with one of four standard and available 4x4 systems. The Command-Trac® 4x4 System (2.72:1 low ratio) is a part-time system, which provides the driver the ability to change into four different drive modes: Neutral, 4Low, 4Hi and 2WD. To engage 4Low Mode on this system, ensure the transmission is in neutral while traveling at low speed and move the shift lever into the 4Low position. Then return the transmission to the required gear. Reverse the process to shift into 4Hi Mode. 4Low and 4Hi will always keep 4WD engaged when selected.

The Rock-Trac® 4x4 System (4:1 low ratio) comes standard in a part-time system or a full-time system, depending on model. The part-time system follows the same driver-intervention instructions described for the Command-Trac® 4x4 System above.

The Rock-Trac® 4x4 Full-Time System provides the same four drive modes described above, but adds a 4Hi Auto Mode. This mode actively manages front and rear torque distribution based on traction needs. Unlike a part-time system, this full-time system is designed for constant use across all surfaces where part-time systems are intended for loose, slippery road surfaces only and not intended for normal driving.

The available Selec-Trac® 4x4 System (2.72:1 low ratio) is also a full-time system.

To switch from 2H to 4H in a 2026 Jeep® Wrangler with an automatic transmission, first slow your vehicle to under 55 mph. Then shift the transfer case lever to the left of the gear shifter from the "2HI" position to the "4HI" position.

The 2026 Jeep® Wrangler 4-door can tow up to a maximum of 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. The 2026 Jeep Wrangler 2-door can tow up to a maximum of 2,000 pounds, when properly equipped.

If properly equipped, the 2026 Jeep® Wrangler can pull most small campers. When properly equipped, the maximum towing capacity of a Wrangler 4-door is 5,000 pounds, which is about the weight of your average small camper.

To flat-tow a 2026 Jeep® Wrangler, you should make sure that a) your Wrangler is properly equipped to be flat-towed, and b) that the vehicle pulling the Wrangler has enough towing capacity to haul the SUV. For the record, the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of the 2026 Jeep® Wrangler ranges between 5,000 and 6,100 pounds. Here’s a breakdown for various models’ weights:

  • 2-Door: 4,014 to 4,429 pounds
  • 4-Door: 4,287 to 4,976 pounds

If your towing vehicle can accommodate the weight of the Wrangler, simply attach the tow arm of your vehicle to the two brackets on the front of the Wrangler.
